Have Camera, Will Travel

A friend of mine convinced me to take a little break this past weekend and go on a little road trip to Green Bay to catch a Christian concert featuring her all-time favorite band, Downhere!

So a group of us jumped in the car and made the two-hour drive. Of course, I couldn't go without my camera in hand--which is exactly what Susan was counting on! She had her own private paparazzi to capture candid shots of her hanging out with the band members after the concert!

Everyone in our group had a great time! And I got a few great "in concert" shots of Glenn, Marc, Jason, and Jeremy performing. Check 'em out!

October 7 - Wow!

It's hard to believe it's October 7 already! The "Class of 2009" portrait sessions are starting to draw to a close, although believe it or not, I am still photographing some Merrill High School seniors who couldn't get in earlier in the summer! I'm also staying super busy processing the photos, uploading them into galleries for online viewing, doing touch ups, submitting portraits to the yearbook, organizing my files, ordering portraits, creating collages, and doing all of the other behind-the-scenes stuff that goes into running a photography studio. I always forget how much time all of that "other stuff" takes! ;-)
It's all a labor of love, though, and I suppose that's why time flies by so quickly! Often I just become totally engrossed in what I am doing and totally lose track of time.

Thought I'd share a little peek at some of the things I've been working on. I'll post a few samples here in the coming days! Enjoy!

Self-Assignment: Inspired by a Legend!

This week I had the opportunity to work with a really cool friend of my daughter's who also had some great artistic vision! Chris and I talked about some cool ideas for his senior portraits and somehow got on the topic of James Dean. I suppose it was Chris's hair that made me think of James Dean when we met to discuss his upcoming senior portrait photo shoot and he totally "got it" when we talked about creating portraits inspired by legendary 1950's portraits of James Dean as a part of his session.

We both love the end result--and so does his Mom! AND, as an added bonus, my daughter and a friend of hers got a sneak peek at these final photos and were blown away! They LOVED them, too! These are the only two portraits I have "finished" and ready for viewing at this point, but I couldn't resist working on them right away (this session was so much fun and a great self-assignment--to create portraits today inspired by a 1950's legend) and giving Chris a preview of what his final portraits will look like when they are finished.

Thanks, Chris, for helping create these incredible images! I hope you like them as much as I do and I hope your friends and family totally love them, too!

Ahh! The Dog Days of Summer!

I can't believe I haven't posted in over a month. The summer months in Wisconsin seem to fly by so quickly that there is never enough time to do all that I hope to do. Now here we are into August . . . the "dog days" of summer and I am still playing catch-up on some of the things I wanted to do in JUNE! (Sigh)

Seriously, the summer has been wonderful and productive--jam packed with lots of great senior portrait sessions, some maternity shoots and adorable newborn babies, a few toddlers for added excitement, and quite a few four legged friends, as well. In fact, those furry bundles of energy and adoration prompted the title for today's blog, and I thought I'd share some art I created after photographing a friend's two beloved labs. I'm planning to send one of these portraits of "the girls" to their "Mom and Dad" in Oshkosh, but I'm having a tough time deciding which version I like best. Care to share your thoughts? Which one do YOU like best?

Maternity & Newborn Portraits

When I'm not shooting senior portraits, some of my favorite subjects are expecting mothers and newborn infants. Recently, I began combining the two in a sort of "before and after" shot -- I believe this is a beautiful artistic rendition mother and child will cherish for years to come. Just thought I'd share it here and get your thoughts! Feel free to post a comment!
